I now tell everyone to never buy another Samsung device. Never again, will we be buying a Samsung device. I asked if they were "****ing ****ting me" and the Best Buy guys said NOPE. Turns out that, even though it is an advertised feature on Samsung TVs, it was well known that this particular feature is just flat out broken on Samsung hardware. I went shopping around to find a new receiver, and wanted to test out the "Audio Return Channel" capabilities of the Samsung Smart TVs to determine whether I'd be able to get rid of the Optical Audio cable that was passing audio from the Smart TV feature back to my old receiver by upgrading to a new receiver with that capability. To top it all off, after purchasing the TV, our AV receiver finally started to go bad after 8 years. Fixing it required a special technicians remote to get into a hidden repair menu. This happened to EVERY TV where their owners had previously turned off the CEC functions on the TV. Turns out that Samsung has screwed up the HDMI-CEC functions, and if they were turned off prior to the update, it put the TV into an endless power loop. After spending OVER 3 HOURS ON THE PHONE with Bestbuy, they finally decided they were going to send some technicians out. Thankfully we found our receipt showing that we had purchased the Geeksquad protection plan. the 1 yr manufacturer's warranty had run out). Samsung recently (last month) released an update to it that COMPLETELY BROKE THE TV (note. We have a 55" Samsung Smart TV that we bought in December 2014. Unfortunately, the development community is practically dead already, so although the hardware should still be decent enough, I'm effectively left with just dealing with it until I can justify the purchase of a new tablet. by finally hacking it and installing Cyanogenmod on it. I've now had the tablet for ~2.5 years, and only just recently was I able to fix the myriad of issues. My main tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition (a bloody $600 android tablet) that had a number of features that were broken out of the box, and they delayed releasing updates to fix them until after the warranty had expired. This behavior isn't just limited to phones. We owned 2X Samsung Galaxy Nexus Phones, which were great, mainly because they were stock Android and were updated by Google, but once they started going bad, they went downhill fast. They release a billion new devices a year, so software support for even brand spanking new devices is virtually non-existent. but they REFUSE to just leave the damn OS alone. They have been putting together solid hardware for years. Samsung built an electronic empire, and are now killing the golden goose. There's a reason my wife and I will no longer be buying any Samsung electronics.
